In this, the first filmed version of the popular comic strip, a distant planet has broken its orbit and is heading straight for Earth. Renowned scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov (Frank Shannon) builds an escape rocket and is joined by Yale graduate Flash Gordon (Buster Crabbe) and Dale Arden (Jean Rogers), a beautiful young woman Flash has just met. They land on the fantastic runaway planet, Mongo, only to tangle with its evil ruler, Ming the Merciless (Charles Middleton), who has dastardly plans for our three heroes.
